Did you know this year is 40 years since the first BSL research workshop in Newcastle? The first workshop on British Sign Language was held on 11-13 May 1979 and resulted in the publication of a volume “Coding British Sign Language.
With the British Deaf Association and Heriot-Watt University, DCAL is organising a one-day event that has been supported by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) as a part of the Festival of Social Sciences.
Current and previous BSL researchers will give presentations in BSL on the impact BSL research has had on the British deaf community, and this event will have STTR and BSL interpreters.
