Exploring the self – Interpreting, counselling and Psychotherapy

Webinar details:

Undertaking personal counselling or psychotherapy is part of the process of someone understanding themselves. It is a difficult process where two people enter into a relationship where difficult discussions take place, with the counsellor or psychotherapist having undertaken years of personal reflection and training. The counsellor or psychotherapists’ personal development, reflection and training is fundamental in the relationship to ensure personal thoughts and feelings do not impact the therapeutic work.

As interpreters in counselling and psychotherapy sessions we enter into a special relationship between two people that is ultimately changed by our presence.  Like a therapist, it is important for interpreters to reflect on their own readiness to work in these sessions and this workshop aims to provide the space to begin or develop your thinking on your readiness.

Information on some of the different types of therapy available will be presented and discussed, along with some of the main aspects of each modality.

The workshop will also provide information on practicalities of interpreting counselling and psychotherapy sessions.

Learning outcomes:

  1. An opportunity for personal reflection on our readiness for working in counselling and psychotherapy.
  2. An understanding of different modalities.
  3. An awareness of how to prepare to interpret.
  4. Knowledge of the practicalities of interpreting in counselling and psychotherapy.
