UKGDPR\, DPA 2018\, PECR\, and security) - By Tom Pearson (Spoken English) DESCRIPTION:ASLI London Region is pleased to offer this amazing opportunity to learn more about GDPR and how we\, as professionals\, can make sure we are GDPR compliant. Please welcome Tom Pearson. Tom is an RSLI\, has an extensive background in technical project management and consultancy\, has delivered workshops and training in a variety of domains\, and recently delivered a similar workshop to a cohort of trainee interpreters. We are delighted to have him with us so don’t miss out\, and bring a friend!   \nInterpreters/translators: handling personal data (inc. UKGDPR\, DPA 2018\, PECR\, and security) – By Tom Pearson. \nIn Signature’s new Level 6 Diploma in Sign Language Interpreting and Translation there is an Assessment Criteria which states\, “Ensure the security and confidentiality of electronic equipment\, client documents and translated/interpreted texts” and the guidance from Signature states “The candidate has a robust policy in place to ensure the security and confidentiality of client information\, in line with GDPR and other legal requirements. Example – The candidate has included a data protection policy in the business plan.” \nA policy\, robust or otherwise\, doesn’t ‘ensure the security and confidentiality of client information’. \nHowever\, following the procedures and processes detailed in a policy which is well written and in compliance with the law and best practice is likely to help towards protecting the ‘security and confidentiality of client information’. \nAssessment Criteria or no Assessment Criteria\, laws or no laws\, to operate with integrity as interpreters and translators we need to understand the duty of care and the level of trust placed on and in us for the protection of personally identifiable information and confidentiality. We need to understand the importance of the protections we can put in place to safeguard the data of those with whom we work. \nIn this 90 mins session we’ll look at some of the factors we should consider as interpreters and translators to scope\, implement\, harden\, and maintain our procedures and processes in these areas.   By the end of the session delegates will leave with a list of areas for further reading\, a signposting document to relevant sources of information and guidance\, a list of practical action points\, and points to consider when documenting our safeguards and how we can communicate these to clients\, agencies\, professional bodies\, and co-workers. \nThis training is open to both ASLI and non-ASLI members so please do spread the word. These sessions will not be recorded. CPD Points: Structured – 1.5 points. \nPLEASE NOTE: This is being delivered twice so please book the correct one. \nDelivered in spoken English at 2.30pm. \nDelivered in BSL at 5pm. \nCost: ASLI members: free. Non-ASLI members: £15 \nGrab your place now. We look forward to seeing you.
