About the Presenter:
Dionne Thomas (RSLI) has been working in the Deaf community for almost 20 years and interpreting for 10 of those years. Her love of business led to the establishment of Deaf Business Academy seeking to support & promote Deaf people in Business in 2013.
Dionne is now one of the UK’s lead expert’s on BSL for business & commerce. As lead researcher for the Business Signs project, she has gained specialist knowledge of interpreting, translation & the role of interpreters in Business settings.
The Webinar:
Introduction to Business Interpreting – this webinar will highlight important factors to consider when taking up bus assignments, helping the discerning interpreter to navigate and employ effective solutions to combat the complexities of interpreting in this domain. The webinar will give a brief overview of a range of factors including: Role adaptations, Business discourse types, Business English and BSL equivalence and Techniques for practicing voicing skills.

- Identify and distinguish between varieties of business discourse
- Understand the variety of roles interpreters may employ when undertaking business assignments
- Understand how to apply Business English to interpretation & translation activities
