This webinar will explore the concept of Imposter Syndrome; those feelings of self-doubt and inadequacy that can persist despite outward appearances of competence. Imposter Syndrome can lead to anxiety, depression, and loss of enjoyment in one’s profession. It can also result in a reluctance to advance one’s career due to feeling fraudulent. Drawing on a small-scale survey of Imposter Syndrome in the interpreting and translation profession, we will highlight how and when the phenomenon is experienced and discuss strategies for recognising and overcoming it. Actively recognising and discussing Imposter Syndrome can help us to recognise the root causes and enable us to become more confident and assured professionals, thus benefiting ourselves, our colleagues, and the clients with whom we work.
