*Online* West Midlands – Interpreting in LGBT+ Settings

£40.00 – £60.00West Midlands region is delighted to welcome Jasper Williams to deliver this excellently composed workshop.
Jasper (he/him) has a background in LGBT+ and Deaf/disability activism since 2012, founding many LGBT+ groups in South Oxfordshire and North Wales. He moved to Bangor and received an MSc in Clinical Neuropsychology. Whilst studying, Jasper created and held the position of the first Trans Officer at Bangor University. He became actively involved with Plaid Ifanc Cymru and then went on to work with NUS Wales in the role of LGBT+ Officer. In this work, he provided extensive LGBT+ inclusion training and workshops, co-organised Prides, as well as ran conferences and led several campaigns nationally around Wales and the UK.
Jasper now works for himself, offering Deaf and disability inclusion training and consultancy, as well as delivering LGBT+ workshops. He also helps Deaf and disabled people with disability benefits claims in the UK and Ireland. He works with Diversity & Ability, Thriving Autistic, Atypical, and communication professional agencies.
This workshop will include the following:
• LGBT+ community history and what LGBTQIA+ means
• Trans inclusion
• Discussion on straight and cis privilege
• Impact of personal bias and use of spoken and signed language linked to LGBT+ identity
• Connecting UK law to interpreting assignments
• How to support LGBT+ people in interpreting spaces
• What allyship means in practice
