This session will explore the types of talk undertaken by healthcare professionals and their significance in an interpreter-mediated appointment. It will also look at the role of co and no speech gestures in a clinical consultation, and the impact this has on our interpretations.

Thaïsa Hughes is a registered sign language interpreter, interpreter trainer and researcher. She works part-time as a senior lecturer and researcher at the University of Wolverhampton and also continues to work as a freelance interpreter.
