Burnout Workshop, 20th March 2021 – online, 10 am to 1 pm, facilitated by Jules Dickinson
20th March 2021 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm£15.00
Recognising burnout before you are toast
How are you feeling right now? Emotionally numb? Worn out? Loss of interest and enthusiasm for work? Easily upset and running low on tolerance? You may be approaching or experiencing burnout. Burnout is a term used to describe the point where we are emotionally, mentally, and physically exhausted, where we feel we can no longer cope and have nothing else to give. Burnout comes from an accumulation of stress in our professional lives, often from trying to meet unreasonable and unrealistic demands (from other people and from ourselves). Additionally, our interpreting role brings us into contact with a variety of professionals who take care of other people’s psychological, social, and physical problems, and as a result we can vicariously experience the demands that accompany this type of work.
In this time of COVID 19 and lockdown, we all face many additional challenges, including grappling with technology, and the fact that work is intruding into our home, a space that was previously an escape from the stressors of our job. It is important that we use strategies to protect ourselves from the impact of blurred home and work boundaries.
The crucial time to attend to burnout is before it happens. To do your job well, you need to be well. Using tools employed in Professional Supervision, this experiential workshop will bring your focus back to yourself and will emphasise the importance of self- care. With that in mind, this workshop will:
- Help you recognise the signs of burnout
- Improve your understanding of the stressors in your life and how to manage them
- Look at how you can separate out work from home life and how you can ‘end’ your working day.
- Equip you with the skills and strategies you need to avoid burnout in the future
