*Online* West Midlands Presents….Dr Dai O’Brien: Time for Prep – building and maintaining relationships with deaf professionals.

1st September 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free
West Midlands Presents… is proud to welcome Dr Dai O’Brien to talk about his work on deaf professionals working with interpreters.

In this webinar Dr Dai O’Brien will outline some of the findings of his recent research project, combining theoretical insights with practical steps that can be taken by interpreters who work with, or want to work with, deaf professionals. Dai will talk about different ways to conceptualise time, the time commitment it takes to provide prep, and some of the strategies that deaf professionals use to maximise the payoff they get for the time invested in arranging and delivering prep. Dai will aim to talk for about 40 minutes, leaving plenty of time for questions/discussion.

Dr Dai O’Brien (https://www.yorksj.ac.uk/schools/languages–linguistics/staff-profiles/academic-staff-profiles/dr-dai-obrien/) works as a Senior Lecturer in BSL and Deaf Studies in York St John University. His current research interests are in deaf space and how deaf people navigate social and physical spaces. When he’s not working, he runs, spends time with his family and thinks about doing yoga.

This webinar will be delivered in BSL, an interpreter will be provided.
