South West Massive: How to use the Teams interpreter function [webinar]
September 2 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
FreeEver wondered what the interpreter function is in Zoom and Microsoft Teams? And how on earth to make the best use of it?
Maybe the people managing the meeting don’t really understand how to capture the interpretation? Annoyed when you have to choose between the document being shared and seeing your colleagues/interpreter?! Want to explore the techy stuff that is becoming more and more important for us to know?!
Wonder no more! Robert Sababady (Online Interpreters Worldwide) is here to help! Robert works with both Zoom and Microsoft on their interpretation products.
So, we have planned two sessions, one to learn about Zoom and one about Teams, both will be around 1.5 hours in length. You can attend one or both. (Robert will also touch on Webex in one or both sessions)
Robert will do an introduction and then we’ll dedicate most of the session to practical exercises. He will ask us to join Zoom/Teams meetings and we’ll try out being designated ‘interpreter’ and practise actually using the functionality. You won’t have to actually interpret, but we will explore for ourselves how it all works.
The sessions will be recorded. This is because Robert has fabulously also offered to create three videos using the recordings of the trainings, which you will also have access to. These videos will be shared by ASLI for all members. We are currently liaising with ASLI as to how we’ll make this happen, so keep your fingers crossed!
The first is a film for interpreters on how to use the interpreting function, communicate with your co-workers and handovers etc.
The second film will be available for you to share with event hosts, so they too understand how to set up the meeting with interpreters.
The third film will be for the deaf community and those that use the interpreters.
We will ask some of you to turn your cameras on so that you can ‘populate’ the meeting and he can record us for these videos. This is optional and we will ask beforehand for people who are happy to do this. You won’t have to ‘do’ anything, or interpret, you’ll just be faces on the screen. If you are not happy to be recorded, you can still attend, but keep your camera off.
So, by attending, please be aware that you may possibly be in this film and Robert will also use the videos for his own professional purposes eg other training.
The sessions will be BSL interpreted.
Zoom: Sunday 13th August 2023 10am
