About this CPD training:
This CPD Session is designed for communication professionals who currently, or are considering in the future, interpreting with people with minimal language skills. This would normally be working with Deaf people who have a Learning Disability but could be useful for people who are experiencing a breakdown in their mental health which has affected their language production or reception and some of the techniques will be suitable when working with children.
As interpreters we do not always know who our client may be and having a toolkit of strategies which can be employed where necessary strengthens our skill base and allows us to provide an appropriate communication mode.
The session will provide you with practical advice and tried and tested techniques to assist with communication. Course participants will be expected to ‘have a go’ in a safe role-play environment.
An experienced Interpreter (Jackie Griffiths, RSLI) and an experienced Residential/Community Support worker within the field of Deafness and Learning Disability will deliver the course.
Jackie can present in either BSL or English, or interpreters can be booked – please let us know – southwest@asli.org.uk
