The Effects of Work-related Stress on Interpreters

This webinar will present findings from Mike’s doctoral research on ‘The Effects of Work-related Stress on Interpreters’.

The initial idea behind this research project came from Mike’s personal experiences working as a BSL/English interpreter within a community setting, becoming aware of the impact that interpreting emotive or traumatic content could have on the interpreter. This was compounded by a random series of events that took Mike on an unplanned journey of emotions that identified a need for research for others working within the field of interpreting to be more aware of the resources available to practising BSL/English interpreters. This quickly led to a realisation that these resources were lacking, and the support offered to the profession around interpreting emotional or traumatic content was not very apparent nor accessible within the profession.
