So, you wanna be a practisearcher? An introduction to research design & ethics in interpreting research

Recently we have seen more interpreter practitioners conducting research as independent researchers, becoming what Daniel Gile (1994) would refer to as ‘practisearchers’, and publishing articles in Newsli and elsewhere. Interpreter practisearchers have a lot to contribute to our field as they can bring their experience and practice to bear on their research (Napier, 2011; Hale & Napier, 2013). In addition to giving an overview of examples of practisearcher research, this webinar will lead participants through the interpreting research process, focusing on how interpreters can engage in fieldwork or reflective practice research. We will focus on two key areas: (1) how to design feasible reflective practice or fieldwork studies, and (2) how to ensure your research is ethical. We will also consider how
practisearchers can adopt a community participatory approach to their research
(Wurm & Napier, 2017). By the end of the webinar, participants with an interest in
doing research will be encouraged to think about their own research interests and
future agendas for SLI research and practice.
