West Midlands Presents… Stephanie Feyne – Is it time to register interpreting agencies?
December 14 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pmFree
West Midlands Presents… is extremely proud to welcome Stephanie Feyne to discuss ethical practices of interpreting agencies in the UK and US. In the ever-growing industry of interpreting agencies, sign language interpreters and the Deaf community might become afterthoughts. Stephanie Feyne calls for greater ethical scrutiny and consideration of agency certification.
The workshop offers a safe space to think about what you can do individually and collaboratively and why it is so important that agency practices are challenged both for the interpreting profession and for the deaf community we serve.
Because of the importance of this subject to our community, we are opening this event up include non ASLI members. We are particularly keen to include deaf people and interpreting agencies.
Stephanie Feyne is a community interpreter in New York City. From 2013-2015 she was co-chair of the Reputable Agency Task Force convened by the National Association of the Deaf and the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. In 2018, her research on ASL-to-English interpretation was published in Interpreting and the Politics of Recognition, edited by Christopher Stone and Lorraine Leeson.
Victoria Carrabin will assist with the workshop providing an historical look at the role of interpreting agencies in the UK and the current status.
This is a free event. This event will not be recorded, it will include a PowerPoint presentation and breakout rooms.
BSL interpreters will be provided, please contact us with any other access needs.
