DeafBlind Awareness Session

May 13 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Michael Collins and Scott Hall will be presenting on their experiences with DeafBlindness.

Michael is DeafBlind and will talk about how he was born Deaf and later lost his sight and the impact that this had on his life.

Scott has known Michael for many years and previously worked with him as his PA and relay interpreter. He is Deaf himself and has worked with people with a range of needs, including DeafBlind, for over 20 years.

Michael will give us his lived experience of being DeafBlind and Scott will describe his experiences with the range of communication methods he has used and how interpreters can use these communicating with DeafBlind people.

This session will include hands-on practical elements.

The session will take place between 10am and 1pm, on Saturday 13th May 2023, at the YHA Manchester.

Attendees will receive a certificate for 3 structured CPD points.

This session is an awareness session based on lived experience and is not designed as a substitute for formalised training within this area.
Also please note the session will be delivered in British Sign Language, if you would like an interpreter please email the committee who can arrange for one.

If you have any questions you would like up to ask either presenter to anything you would like discussed, please email the committee at northwest@asli.org.uk prior to the 13th May, although there will be time on the day for questions and answers.
