Indonesia has seen many natural disasters, and we will see the stories of Deaf people, how they survived and how they are dealing with life and their mental health. Some people had their lives turned upside down by the tsunami, which literally swallowed everything they had; their home, their entire family, everything they knew. Discover what life is really like in a Deaf village; what a tough reality it is for Deaf people struggling with improvised working conditions, disease, and extreme poverty, to name but a few.
Presenter - Herbert Klein is passionate about Deaf people and their mental health. He is an Independent Deaf Advisor in mental health and the Chair of Remark! Community and the President of British Society Mental Health and Deaf People. He has worked tirelessly over the last 30 years in the UK to support this cause. For the last 6 years his work has continued as a volunteer, but in Indonesia.
“I have delivered 22 workshops to over 523 Deaf people to increase their knowledge of mental health issues and discover ways to overcome them. My mission was to empower and provide tools to as many Deaf people as possible, so they can pass on the skills and awareness of mental health issues. With one of the largest Deaf communities in the world, about 4 million across different islands, it was not going to be easy.” Herbert Klein
We hope to see you on the night, but even if you can or can’t attend, you can also make donations here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/deaf-indonesian-project-2024 and encourage others to do so. Be a part of this amazing story by donating what you can. Thank you.
