About Us

Aligned with ASLI's ethos, the Deaf Interpreters Network (DIN) aim to:

  • Promote best practice in sign language interpreting and translation by Deaf practitioners.
  • Encourage more Deaf practitioners to gain qualifications and achieve professional registration through tailored guidance and support.
  • Advocate for the interests and perspectives of Deaf interpreters and translators within the UK interpreting profession.

To achieve these aims, DIN will:

  • Organise regular webinars, workshops, and CPD events to support professional development.
  • Provide expert advice to the ASLI Board and staff on matters concerning Deaf interpreters and translators.
  • Contribute to ASLI’s development of best practice, policies, and guidance across a range of interpreting domains.
  • Represent ASLI at external events related to training, qualifications, accreditation, and employment of Deaf interpreters and translators (with prior agreement from the ASLI Chair)
  • Promote the professional training and registration of Deaf interpreters and translators.
  • Support ASLI and community-led events.

The purpose of DIN

DIN is for all Deaf ASLI members — working together to create networking and professional development opportunities across the UK. Your involvement is what makes DIN a strong, dynamic, and effective community. The DIN Committee is made up of volunteers who are also active Deaf interpreters and translators.

The committee organises events throughout the year, and for each event, subgroups are formed from within the membership to help plan and deliver activities. This enables members to develop their skills, contribute to the network, and gain valuable experience.

If you enjoy being involved and are interested in taking on a greater commitment, we encourage you to apply for a position on the DIN Committee. This is a great opportunity to take on specific responsibilities, expand your knowledge, and help shape the future of DIN. We also welcome volunteers to support our events throughout the year. If you're interested in getting involved, please get in touch.

What We Offer:

  • A regional bi-annual conference, delivered in collaboration between ASLI and DIN.
  • Plan for Future development, including the creation of two regional groups across the UK.
  • Potential in-person workshops, with plans for one to two face-to-face training sessions in the future.
  • 4 to 6 CPD sessions each year, proving at least six CPD points, along with opportunities to build knowledge and develop skills.
