The ASLI Wellbeing Fund

The ASLI Wellbeing Fund was established in 2019/20. Whether you are returning to work after a break, dealing with bullying, or navigating a personal or professional crisis, the fund can cover two free mentoring or supervision sessions to give you the support you need.

The goal of the Wellbeing Fund has always been simple: If you are struggling, you don’t have to face it alone.

Who can use the Wellbeing Fund?

ASLI offers up to two free sessions with a supervisor or mentor to trainee and qualified practitioners members, and eligible students* whose studies or work are being affected.

You may be eligible if you are:

●     Facing a crisis situation* that is impacting your work, or has arisen from your work

●     Making or responding to an NRCPD complaint

●     Returning to work after parental leave, caring responsibilities, health issues, or trauma

●     Experiencing bullying, harassment, discrimination, or horizontal violence

●     Adjusting to work after a serious health condition or disability diagnosis

*students are eligible if their interpreting and/or translating qualification has been interrupted or affected.

*a crisis situation will be assessed at the discretion of the supervisor or mentor.

Getting Support Through the Wellbeing Fund

If you meet the Wellbeing Fund criteria, you can access up to two free sessions with either:

●     An ASLI-qualified mentor or professional supervisor (see ASLI Directory), or

●     A suitable external supervisor (outside interpreting / translating profession if there’s a conflict of interest, or if you prefer)

Please note that to use an external supervisor, they must be qualified, insured, and supervised in their own practice. NRCPD Practice Assessors and Senior Practitioners with supervision qualifications can be eligible. You can refer to the following links to help you source a suitable supervisor:

If you are struggling to find someone, just contact Membership Officer (membership@asli.org.uk) and we will help signpost you.

How it works

  1. Notify the Membership Officer regarding your intention to access the Wellbeing Fund.
  2. Contact your chosen (and approved) mentor/supervisor with a short summary of your situation and let them know you want to use the Wellbeing Fund.
  3. The mentor/supervisor will check that you meet the criteria and notify the Membership Officer.
  4. The Membership Officer will check that all the steps have been completed correctly. This process includes confirming the fees payable before any agreement is made and ensuring that the member has not previously claimed (a new claim must be at least 365 calendar days after the previous claim).
  5. You and your mentor / supervisor arrange the two sessions directly.
  6. Your mentoring/supervision session(s) take place.
  7. The mentor / supervisor will then complete the Support Session Record and share it with you to confirm the details recorded are accurate and non-confidential. This record will also be shared with the Membership Officer, but only for administrative and eligibility purposes*
  8. The mentor / supervisor will then invoice ASLI via Membership Officer for the support session(s).

Up to two free sessions must be used within one membership year.

Additional sessions may be possible, subject to Board approval.

Existing supervision or mentoring arrangements can’t be funded.

Mentors and supervisors will be paid their usual hourly rate.

*Importantly, the Board will not know, and will never know, who has accessed support through the Wellbeing Fund. The Membership Officer, the Board, and the ASLI Office will not be given any information about the nature of the issue or the content of your session. That information remains strictly confidential between you and your mentor / supervisor. Only minimal data required for verification and monitoring purposes will be collected, and this will be held securely. Members are encouraged to share feedback with the Board via our feedback form after their sessions so that we can monitor the effectiveness of the service to members.
