Workshop
Using findings from his current PhD research, Ricci will outline the concept of sociolinguistic sensitivity in British Sign Language, demonstrate examples and suggest how these sociolinguistically sensitive signs can be identified and categorised.
The workshop will be both presentation and discussion based.
Background
Ricci is an innovative and dynamic lecturer in British Sign Language and Deaf Studies. After working in the FE sector with deaf learners and learners with SEND support needs, Ricci joined UCLan as a Lecturer in 2018 and is now a Senior Lecturer.
Ricci has a keen interest in sociolinguistics and is developing his research interests in the sociolinguistics of Deaf communities in particular. He also has interest and expertise in documentation of Deaf history and preservation of sign language usage. Having completed his Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice, Ricci is currently undertaking a PhD, researching social sensitivity in the BSL lexicon, linguistic purism and the effects of mental imagery on signed interactions. He has a particular interest in the individual’s adaptation and modification of sign language usage in different domains.
