Webinar: Working with Deaf Interpreters
25th March 2020 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm
FreePresenter: Ramon Woolfe
Join Ramon Woolfe, MA, as he explores the profession of Deaf Interpreting and the unique relationship between hearing and deaf interpreters.
This session will take a look back at the emergence of the profession, examine the dynamics between hearing and deaf interpreters, and debunk the ‘us and them’ culture.
Webinar outcomes:
Ramon comes from a long line of Deaf people – the 7th generation of his family and father to four Deaf children. Ramon’s native language is BSL but he is fluent in many signed languages, which comes in useful when he’s travelling the world.
Ramon started his media career with a breakthrough role at the world renowned BBC before studying his film degree at Wolverhampton University. Frustrated by a lack of roles for Deaf people Ramon established his own media company and has spent over 20 years working to improve media employment opportunities for Deaf people.
Ramon is a qualified translator and holds a Masters in Sign Language Interpreting Studies. He provides interpreting services for the United Nations. He believes that people who communicate via sign language perceive the world differently, are more creative, and have a unique visual style.
