An Introduction to SSE: Becoming a Better SSE Interpreter
Join us for a whistle-stop tour of the linguistics behind BSL / English and Sign Supported English (SSE), exploring what it is, how deaf people use it, and where it fits into everyday communication. We’ll then turn the spotlight onto ourselves as interpreters, looking at some common pitfalls and exploring how we can make our SSE interpreting more accurate, effective, and intentional. Through practical examples, lively discussion and hands-on exercises, we’ll challenge some familiar habits, sharpen our linguistic awareness, and discover how small changes can make a big difference to the quality of our interpreting.
