Presenter - Lucy Wox
Lucy is a PhD candidate at the University of the West of England, Bristol, researching Language Deprivation and how it violates deaf children’s human rights. Lucy graduated in 2022 with a first-class law degree and was awarded the Oxford University Press Law Prize in recognition of her performance throughout her undergraduate studies. She then graduated in 2024 with a distinction in LLM (Masters of Law) in Law. Lucy has a chapter due to be published in 2027 based on her LLM thesis, focusing on cochlear implants and deaf children’s rights, and is a member of the British Sign Language Advisory Board.
This talk aims to give interpreters a deeper understanding of language deprivation, its impacts and share tips on how to work with deaf clients with language deprivation.
