Assistant Professor in Applied Sign Linguistics, Dr Isabelle Heyerick works in the Centre for Deaf Studies within the School of Linguistic, Speech & Communication Sciences at Trinity College Dublin, the University of Dublin.
The day begins with an exploration and introduction to TAP and the application to sign language interpreting practice. Isabelle will then guide participants in practically using the process.
Following this, participants will learn how to analyse their TAP, asking how & why and what to look for, including plenty of practice and reflective discussion as a group.
To Do before the workshop:
Look for a source text you want to interpret on the day. This can be a written text, a signed text (video), or a spoken text (audio, or audio and video). Minimum length 8 minutes.
There is no need to already engage with this source text prior to the workshop. In fact, it would be best if you had not read, seen, or listened to it before.
Bring this piece of material with you to the workshop, along with a device that allows you to access the source text you have chosen and a device that allows you to record yourself signing and/or speaking (two devices needed e.g. a laptop and smartphone; a tablet and smartphone). Should you require them, please bring earphones/headphones. And finally, your curiosity and energy!
Please bring lunch. Apologies but tea & coffee is not provided.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Tickets £50
