First Nominator: Marco Nardi, Second Nominator: Rebecca Fenton-Ree
I am honoured to be considered for a position on the board of ASLI. My family's three-generation history of deafness has deeply ingrained in me a passion for Deaf advocacy and inclusion. As a translator for over 18 years and a relay interpreter for 4 years, I've witnessed the Deaf community's challenges and triumphs firsthand.
I'm proud to see the growth of sub groups such as DIN, empowering Deaf individuals and fostering a sense of belonging. It's inspiring to witness more Deaf professionals emerging.
My entrepreneurial background has honed my leadership, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills. I'm confident that these skills, combined with my deep-rooted connection to the Deaf community, will make me a valuable asset to the board.
I'm eager to contribute my unique perspective and expertise to the board. I am particularly interested in continuing to develop DIN representation in line with ASLI's values.
Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the opportunity to serve the interpreting profession.
First Nominator: Benjamin Alexander Gorman, Second Nominator: Linda Bruce
My first term on the board has been focussed on ASLI's digital transformation and website project. The work we have begun this year on our ongoing strategy and organisational aims and objectives is the next step in ensuring ASLI will be in the best position to grow and continue to thrive in the coming years. I would very much enjoy the opportunity to continue being part of this work and supporting ASLI at the national level, if the membership wishes to lend me their votes and support to do so.
First Nominator: Tessa Slaughter, Second Nominator: Miles Harris
I would like to express my interest in joining the Board of Directors. I have worked as an RSLI for 5 years, mostly in education and health care, and as a trainee interpreter for 4 years. I also have a strong background in administration and organisation, providing support to various hospitals and colleges.
I bring a strong sense of integrity and high standards of conduct to every professional role I take on. I often faced issues requiring strategic thinking and careful deliberation in my previous administration position. I could step back, ensuring personal biases did not cloud my judgment. Instead, I focused on the organisation's long-term goals, always balancing pragmatism with the willingness to compromise where needed for the greater good of the company.
I take pride in my ability to think with clarity, objectivity, and brevity. Whether working through sensitive issues with staff members or collaborating with teams, I rely on good judgment and diplomacy to communicate effectively and focus on the broader objectives. I can listen to all viewpoints, weigh the facts, and contribute to a decision that is in the organisation's best interest. I am committed to helping the board wherever needed, with administration or assisting with additional tasks that align with ASLI’s mission. I understand the importance of separating personal views from organisational objectives and am committed to ensuring that potential conflicts of interest do not influence decision-making. I am eager to contribute my expertise to support the continued success of ASLI.
First Nominator: Faye Middleton, Second Nominator: Marion Fletcher
Born and raised Deaf, I have worked with interpreters my whole life and am now close to qualifying as an interpreter myself. I am passionate about raising the profile of the Deaf Interpreter Network (DIN) and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) within ASLI. With over 20 years of experience volunteering in trustee roles, most recently as President of the World Federation of the Deaf Youth Section, I believe ASLI aligns closely with my values. I would welcome the opportunity to contribute to the association with my experience and skills, and to engage people who may not have previously been involved with ASLI.
First Nominator: Carolyn Denmark, Second Nominator: Clark Denmark
I am Sandra Pratt, an interpreter (RSLI), researcher and interpreter educator. I am a current member of the board. I am hoping to continue to contribute to the work of ASLI. It has been a pleasure working on the board so far and feel that I bring my experience of working in interpreter training as well as my own lived experience. I have worked in training for 22years and have already been instrumental in setting up and hosting webinars. I’m pleased to continue doing this or assisting and supporting ASLI.
