ASLI Conference 2024: Reframe, Reset and Refresh

We are very excited to introduce this year's ASLI Conference, with our theme of 'Reframe, Refresh and Reset'. This is a major event in the UK sign language interpreting calendar, and a welcome chance to get together and enjoy some much needed time away from the treadmill of working life to engage with each other.

We have put together a programme that we believe is both intellectually stimulating and enriching for us as practitioners. If you are a traditional conference goer and want to watch challenging presenters sharing cutting edge research and perspectives, there is plenty for you. If you prefer to take a more relaxed approach, we have sessions that are interactive and those that are reflective and give you space to breathe. You can mix it all up, and enjoy all of the above - we aim for this to be an event that caters for many tastes.

Weekend Overview

Consultation Session

Friday 18th, 2PM - late
A free consultative event to develop the ASLI strategic plan and discuss motions proposed for voting. Blackpool itself is a vibrant city, and if you come to this free consultation session we have planned a fabulous tram trip to see the famous illuminations!

Saturday 19th, 8:30AM-6PM
This year’s conference programme will have 3 strands: reframe, reset and refresh. In parallel to the conference programme, there will be an array of stalls, opportunities for networking, a quite space, and wellbeing support.

Gala Dinner

Saturday 19th, 7PM-late
Saturday will culminate in a fabulous a gala dinner with entertainment from Caroline Parker. We will also be presenting our annual FASLI award and tri-annual Ben Steiner award.

This year’s conference programme has 3 strands: Reframe, Reset and Refresh.

Reframe is a traditional presentation of papers with unlimited capacity and no pre-booking required, Refresh are skills development sessions with limited capacity and pre-booking required, Reset are reflective workshops with limited capacity and pre-booking required.

After purchasing your conference ticket (between 1-2 working days) you will be able to book onto the Refresh and Reset strands and will receive a notification email. You cannot book more than one refresh session or reset workshop in the same time slot.

Yes. Exclusive accommodation discount for ASLI members is available at the Imperial Hotel Blackpool for ASLI conference attendees at a discounted rate for a minimum 2 night stay Friday & Saturday.

All the presentations in the ‘Reframe’ strand (apart from the Q&A) will be recorded in BSL and will be published in a special edition of NEWSLI later in 2024. The ‘Refresh’ and ‘Reset’ strands will not be recorded.

Yes, we need an enthusiastic team of volunteers to support us to make the 2024 ASLI Conference happen. All volunteers will have their conference registration, accommodation and food costs covered as well as a travel allowance. We will also be scheduling time so that you can participate in the conference too. Your time and energy are really valued and therefore the ASLI board wants to ensure you get a lot out of the volunteering experience

Dinner is included in all tickets for Friday 20th October.
Lunch is included in all tickets for Saturday 19th October.

Upon booking tickets for Friday, Saturday or the Gala you will be asked to notify us of any dietary requirements and allergies you have.

The language of the conference is BSL. Please note that public interpretation will not be provided during the conference; we will however endeavour to support individuals and small groups who request interpretation. When you buy your ticket, please indicate if you require a BSL-ENG interpreter in the 'access requirements' question.

Refunds are not available, but tickets are transferable if you contact office@asli.org.uk

Parking is on a first come, first serve basis. There are around 150 spaces at the hotel and there is some free on street parking around the hotel. You cannot book parking in advance.

Parking is charged at £9.00 per night but is complimentary for ASLI members who book the ASLI rate at the hotel (see ASLI website for more information)
