It’s easy to support the idea of allyship, but how do you put it into practice? In this session we will look at being an ally and moving from talking the talk, to actively walking the walk. Remembering that we all have power and privilege in different situations, we will look at how someone in a position of privilege can effectively use who they are, to advocate for change and promote the voices of minority groups.
This session will be delivered in English. BSL interpreters will be provided if required; please advise if you need an interpreter when booking your ticket. This session will not be recorded.
To reduce instances of non attendance, a minimal fee of £5 is applied to this booking. Attendees will receive 2 CPD points.
Azaria Francis
Azaria is an Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Consultant, and works with deaf and interpreting organisations. She has been a Registered Sign Language Interpreter (RSLI) for 10 years. She has facilitated training for interpreters in the UK, Europe and internationally, on ‘Race and Interpreting’, and other EDI related topics. She has also presented on these topics at various conferences and events such as EFSLI, WASLI, ASLI and VLP.
Azaria is a former Director of Interpreters of Colour Network (IOCN) and believes in promoting their mission of ‘support, educate and celebrate’, to address the under-representation of people of colour and other marginalised groups within the interpreting and translation profession.
Helen Fuller
Working as a BSL/English Interpreter since 1992, Helen qualified in 1996 and has a broad range of community interpreting experience, including 15 years of delivering video relay and video remote interpreting services. She is a qualified assessor, internal verifier and external verifier and has developed and delivered training programmes on behalf of RNID, Sign for Thoughts and SignVideo. Helen has a proven track record of delivering training to interpreters pre and post qualification, delivering interpreter training programmes and CPD sessions. She is registered with NRCPD and is a member of the Chartered Management Institute.
