Exploring Unconscious Bias – A one day introductory workshop for Sign Language Interpreters & Translators

13th November 2021 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

£75.00

Unconscious Bias is often in the news, as an explanation for people’s discriminatory behaviour and as a way of addressing such behaviour, for example, through Unconscious Bias training.  In this very interactive workshop we explore:

  • Unconscious Bias, the concept and in the ‘real world’, critiques and alternatives.
  • How Unconscious Bias impacts on us as interpreters and translators.
  • How Unconscious Bias impacts on our interpreting and translation.
  • What we can do to address Unconscious Bias.

Josef Baines and Darren Townsend-Handscomb will be delivering the taught sections, and facilitating the discussions.  The workshop will be delivered mainly in BSL (Josef is a deaf BSL user).
We are currently planning to deliver this face to face. If due to Covid it needs to be delivered remotely, we will do so, and will include plenty of stretch and eye breaks.

For more information please read the full workshop summary: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1sSp1NDqi8erOAs-I8maB3Hw_XcvZx_-r/view?usp=sharing

Tea and coffee will be provided. Bring your own lunch.
