Join us in a revealing webinar where we uncover the truths behind translation and interpretation, cutting through the romanticised notions that often lead to disappointment.
Jeff Brattan-Wilson was one of the first people in the UK to be qualified as a BSL translator. He is now teaching on the Diploma is BSL/English Interpreting and Translation studies at SignWorld. He also taught at University of Bristol (Translation studies) and University of Reading (Sign Theatre and Shakespeare).
Jeff co-authored a report looking into Young Deaf people and Legal justice (Making Law work for young Deaf people - Law Society 2012). He has also commissioned several BSL translations and lead the shift from commissioning BSL access to BSL version for Social Care Wales in his full-time role as an Engagement and Lead Development Officer.
Jeff will explore why translators and interpreters sometimes see their work through rose-tinted glasses, especially in English-to-
BSL contexts. Through practical examples and Jeff's insights, we'll understand why these idealisations happen and how they can backfire. Jeff will share strategies to stay grounded and minimise the risk of feeling betrayed by unrealistic expectations.
Whether you're new to translation or a seasoned professional, this webinar will challenge your perceptions and provide practical tips for navigating the complexities of language mediation with clarity and integrity. Don't miss this opportunity to see translation in a new light and improve your practice.
